Jennifer Aniston just reignited the 'Friends' revival rumour

Friends has long been one of our favourite TV shows, and since it was added to Netflix recently, our desire for new episodes of the show has grown and grown.

We were certain that it was never going to happen given Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer’s previous remarks, but Jennifer Aniston has put the rumour mill into overdrive with her latest comments.

Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jennifer was asked about the possibility of a revival, and she set tongues wagging with her response.

“Anything is a possibility, Ellen. Anything! Right? I mean, George Clooney got married… That’s like an anything can happen.”

Oh Jen, don’t toy with us this way!

We already know that the gang are still in contact – remember when Lisa confirmed they’d had a secret reunion? She explained on The Today Show:

“We have convened. Privately. For dinner. It was really fun! We had such a good time, it was hilarious. We were laughing nonstop.”

When asked about the possibility of a Friends reunion on the telly, she said: “I don’t see it happening. It would be fun but what would it be about? The thing we liked about that show is it was like 20-somethings and they were their own family and now they all have families. So what are we going to watch?”

If Jennifer’s new comments are anything to go off, we could be more likely to see them back together than we thought.

Matthew Perry has said he wouldn’t take part in the reunion show as it would “ruin” the sitcom’s ending. You’re breaking our hearts here, Matt.

The actor, who played funny man Chandler in the hit 90s sitcom, has ruled out the reunion saying the writer’s had “left it so beautifully” so why change it? We might even agree with him. We can’t make up our minds…

He explained: “That’s the concern about doing a reunion show, or a movie, because it ended so well, and you don’t want to ruin that.

Addressing if a reunion show was ever actually on the cards, he said: “Everyone always asks about a reunion, and there’s been no real talk of that.”

There’s already been a cast reunion (read below) but Matthew Perry could not attend due to commitments in London with his West End play.

We’re not giving up hope just quite yet. Even if we have to wait twenty years and see the gang nattering away in an old people’s home…

Last night the Friends reunion finally aired. Now, it wasn’t quite what we’d been holding out for – the cast got together to pay tribute to director James Burrows. But their interview was very revealing – they even answered some of the burning questions we’ve had for years.

Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer joined over 40 stars of Burrows’ best-known shows for Must See TV: An All-Star Tribute to James Burrows. Sadly, Matthew Perry was absent, due to his contract for a new West End play.

The cast took to the stage to be interviewed by host Andy Cohen. Here’s what happened…

Firstly, they were asked about whether they had sex contracts during the show.

“David, say something,” Lisa pushed David after an awkward silence.

To which he obliged, joking: “Well, that was broken.”

And just to confirm, Lisa said she’d never actually been asked to agree to that. Cheeky.

Coversation then moved on to the question we’ve been wondering ever since we’ve moved out and paid sky-high rent: exactly how did the friends afford their spacious, central New York apartments?

Courtney reminded us that her character Monica Geller inherited the apartment from her grandmother, while Matt was quick to come up with the alibi that it was due to “Rent control.”

That clears that up then.

Courtney also shared that her Lisa and Jennifer ate lunch together during the show’s 10 years of filming.

It’s not exactly what we were hoping for, but we’re still loving the fact that the Friends cast got together for a little chit-chat.

Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer reminisced about the good ol’ days during upcoming show Must See TV: An All-Star Tribute to James Burrows.

In a new clip from the programme – set to air in the US on 21 February – Jennifer Aniston said: “We would do anything for Jim Burrows because he really gave us the opportunity of a lifetime and probably the best 10 years of our acting careers that we will forever remember.

“We experienced friendship, family, heartbreak, babies, everything together. We also sort of had a wonderful experience with the world loving us, as well – they connected with us.”

That we did!

Matthew Perry couldn’t make the event as he is contracted for play The End of Longing here in London’s West End.

On 25 January 2016, we wrote…

The cast of The Big Bang Theory met the stars of Friends last night at a gala dinner for director James Burrows, in Los Angeles.

Kaley Cuoco took to Instagram with a photo of some of the Big Bang cast posing with some of the Friends cast.

What’s more, Kaley said she “died and went to heaven”.

Posing alongside David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow with her co-stars, Kaley couldn’t hide her excitement.

She wrote: “Ummmm NIGHT MADE. Can’t breathe #friends meets #bbt @bigbangtheory_cbs I died and went to heaven.”

Matthew Perry wasn’t in attendance as he’s here in London working on a play, and revealed to Graham Norton: “It’s not the Friends reunion that everybody’s hoping for.

“They’re celebrating Jim Burrows, who was a director of Friends and the five of them are going to be on this special and I’m going to introduce them from here because I’m doing the play here (in London).”

As if Blue Monday wasn’t bad enough, now David Schwimmer has decided to manage our expectations about the Friends reunion that we were all mega excited about last week.

“There’s no Friends reunion,” he corrected a reporter who asked about the event. “It’s a tribute to Jimmy Burrows who we love and I’m just thrilled to be a part of it. As many of us that can be there will be there and the casts of so many shows are going to try to be there – Frasier, Cheers, Will and Grace, it goes on. Taxi. This man is an incredible director who helped define situation comedy in this country in the last 40 years so I love him and I’m excited to be there.”

Like us, David Schwimmer is also bummed that his old friend Matthew Perry won’t be there, but he’s not annoyed.

“Sure I’m sad, but I’m happy for him, he’s doing a play in London and it’s thrilling,” he added. “I did one there and it was fantastic.”

Regardless, Schwimmer thinks it’ll be a special night. “It’s going to be a good time,” he said. “We’re all going to be there honoring someone we love very much, Jimmy Burrows, the great director.”

The James Burrows special is set to air Sunday, 21 February 2016.

Ok, way to ruin a Friday Chandler Bing.

It has been announced that the full cast of Friends will NOT be reuniting for a special tribute to their show’s former director James Burrows.

It turns out that Matthew Perry – who played Chandler Bing on the show – won’t be available. Deadline have confirmed that he’ll be here in London at the time, as he makes his West End debut in his own play The End Of Longing on 2 February.

News has reached us that there is actually going to be a Friends reunion happening. This is not a drill, this is actually going to take place. Seriously, could we BE more excited?

And breathe…

The cast is set to come together next month for a TV special honouring legendary sitcom director James Burrows, who was a principal director during the show’s first season and helmed 15 episodes of Friends in total.

He’s a pretty big deal, and will hopefully be enough to get the gang back together.

The news was revealed at the NBC panel for the Television Critics Association, and not to be a party pooper, but the network’s Robert Greenblatt warned us that Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer won’t all be in the same room during the special, but they WILL all take part.

“[We’re] hoping that all six of them will be in the same room at the same time, but I’m not sure we can logistically pull that off.”

The special, directed by Sean Hayes and also featuring the cast of Will and Grace (Burrows worked on that, too), will air on NBC on 21 February 2016.

While the creators of Friends denied we’d see a reunion any time soon, Jimmy Kimmel took the matter into his own hands this week when Jennifer Aniston was a guest on his Live show.

Jen-An appeared on the programme to promote her new movie Life of Crime, and it wasn’t long before Jimmy slipped into the conversation that he was a HUGE Friends fan. He also told her he’d written some fan fiction around the groups’ antics.

And before she knew it, Jen was reluctantly back in Monica’s kitchen, well a remake of it, which Jimmy joked he spent “$80,000 making”.

Once the host had convinced Jen to read lines as Rachel, while he played Ross, it wasn’t long before Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow swung by to join them.

Our favourite part of the reunion? Jimmy’s constant jibes about the lack of realism in the series: “Is it dumber than living in a huge apartment in New York City for eight years even though you work in a coffee shop?”, “Maybe we can meet our group of friends, like Monica and Phoebe, and we can all have breakfast together as a group before work, like normal people do, all the time.”

The 20th anniversary of the show’s premiere is next month, and we still have our fingers crossed that show’s makers have a whole-cast reunion up their sleeeves. Because we need more of this…

Sorry guys, but Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer will NOT be returning to our screens for a Friends reunion.

Want to know why we think that? Friends creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane have pretty much stressed it.

The pair told Entertainment Weekly that they have never taken the reunion rumours seriously.

Marta Kauffman said: “We never, ever from the beginning ever wanted to do a spinoff or Grown-Up Friends or Friends Kids or Baby Friends. We always knew and felt very strongly that not only would it never happen, we never wanted to be part of that, because it so rarely works.

“Honestly, I have to go back to ‘the show is over.’ What was at the heart of the show is done. And let’s be honest, it’s 20 years later. Nobody looks like they did then. And you’re going to spend the whole time going, ‘Wow, he’s aged..'”

David Crane added: “If anyone wants Friends, turn on your TV! Amazingly, thank god, it’s there. And these are all great actors that you’re seeing all the time in other things.

“Marta and I have talked about this a lot. People say they want it, and the more that we say it’s a bad idea, people [disagree]. But I think if we actually gave it to people, there would be such backlash.”

Kauffman also told E! News this week that a movie reunion will never happen. “Friends was about that time in your life when your friends are your family and once you have a family, there’s no need anymore.”
